Using image and text, the book investigates this crowd-pleasing genre’s visual iconography, archetypes, and iterative language to deepen our understanding of how it somehow manages to bring both quiet after the pandemic halted live entertainment around the globe. The series needed a new look to match the energy of its rebirth. The existing repurposed concrete feel of the branding felt dated, so I was brought on to breathe new life into the project. Given creative liberty and a task list of deliverables, I started by drawing up new brand guidelines that included Setlist.fm’s desire for an “Old Hollywood” art deco feel while complementing the existing brand. I chose an ultraviolet to bring out the best of the signature lime green that has defined Setlist.fm. Built on the principle of “work hard, play hard,” Equinox Hotels wanted a social campaign that exhibited how to care for the mind, body, and soul. With Talisman’s Jacob Kemp as the motion and art director and myself as the lead animator and graphic designer, we created a series of animations explaining expert training tips to help athletes feel prepared for the race and recharge afterwards. Each animation in the series contains rituals for revitalizing morning routines and relaxing evening habits. marketing emails, web banners, social media posts, targeted advertisements, and so much more. I will reference one of my long-time clients as an example. When the manufacturer raised the prices of Alegria Shoe Shop’s inventory, I was brought on to elevate the design language of the company as a whole. With branding from the early 21st century, the whole company was due for a modern facelift. I was given a nearly sixty foot blank wall and told “Don’t make it too expensive.” I took to photoshop. Nearly three months later, I was standing in front of several long strips of printed fabric with two days to install and document my vision.
